They withstand freezing winters, hot dry summers, and stand their ground when the rocky landscape tries to take over. In this scene from my garden, I love the contrast of bright spiky flowers against the subdued hues of the round river stones. I grew up near Algonquin Park and never tire of painting the rocks of the Canadian Shield. This artwork is the largest watercolour I have done so far
